Test automation architecture
Test Automation Architect · QA Strategy Lead
I worked on two projects in a row on a European regulatory and registry platform. On the Core project I set up the QA strategy and automation framework. On the Cyprus rollout I led testing across several countries and moved the framework from Playwright/TypeScript to Cypress/JavaScript.

Overview
The client builds a European regulatory and registry platform. I led QA strategy on two of their projects back to back. The Core project came first and needed a framework built from scratch. The Cyprus rollout came next, with deployments in several countries and a change of test framework partway through.
Core project · Test Automation Architect
I set up the QA strategy and automation framework from scratch.
- Built a Cypress + JavaScript framework for the Angular frontend and .NET Core backend
- Cut smoke and regression run times by several orders of magnitude by restructuring the suites and running them in parallel
- Ran the tests in Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines on every merge
- Wrote test cases for registry features, UX routes and form validation
- Worked with other teams on test documentation and reporting
Cyprus rollout · Test Automation Architect
I led testing for the Cyprus rollout, including a framework migration in the middle of the project.
- Started the automation in Playwright with TypeScript
- Moved the framework to Cypress with JavaScript partway through to match the organization’s standards, without delaying delivery
- Set up Azure DevOps workflows linked to requirements and test plans
- Deployed to several countries, each with its own validation rules
Looking back
The two projects had different constraints. The big drop in regression time came from looking closely at what the pipeline was doing and removing what it didn’t need to do. Switching frameworks mid-project without slipping the delivery date was the hardest part.
